The basic breathing procedures are:
- clear the airways (with caution as there may be damage to the cervical);
- loosen the victim's clothes, especially around the neck, chest and waist;
- check for anything or object obstructing the victim's mouth or throat;
- start rescue breathing as soon as the victim has been placed in the
correct position. Every second is precious.
The basic procedures of cardiac massage are:
- place the victim on his back on a hard surface in the supine position;
- place the hands overlapping on the lower half of the sternum with the arms extended;
- the fingers should be open and do not touch the chest wall;
- then, apply pressure, with enough vigor, to lower the sternum by about 5 cm,
compressing the heart against the spine;
- decompress next.
